Description
This painting illuminates the meeting point between a living sea that moves like breath – inhaling and exhaling itself into the world – with the illusory permanence of our homes and lives. Empires have been built and perished on the seas. I have a lifetime love affair with the ocean. I’ve felt my highest joy riding its waves, and come closest to death struggling to be released from its airless embrace. Yet I always return. The title also has a double meaning: first, the obvious one. Secondly, in reference to one of my favorite artists, the Pre-Raphaelite painter John William Waterhouse, whose painting A Mermaid is partially reproduced in this scene.
Fine art limited edition giclee available in 2 formats:
- Archival pigment printing on canvas, that has been hand-embellished with clear gesso, signed and numbered. This option includes a modern floater frame (black, silver, white or light wood) that adds 1.25″ both vertically and horizontally to the dimensions of the fine art archival print.
- Archival pigment printing on Epson Hot Press White archival paper, signed and numbered. This option will be shipped to you rolled in a tube unless you reach out and provide us the opportunity to work with you on custom framing and matting. We encourage this in Southern California. If you’re located elsewhere it makes more sense to work with a local framer due to shipping expense.
Giclee Dimensions: 27″ x 36″; custom sizes as large as 50″ x 66″ available upon request.
